Hollywood South Wraps 2012

Looks Forward to 2013

The film industry in Baton Rouge broke in 2012 with the city's first scripted television series, The Breakout Kings. Meanwhile, Stephanie Meyer, the author behind the Twilight phenomenon, has been good to South Louisiana, with her second book series turned movie filmed here.

However, perhaps the biggest news for Hollywood South in 2012 wasn't the presence of A-list stars and their movies, but the addition of a new visual effects company Pixomondo.

Tom Cruise's Baton Rouge-shot 'Oblivion' gets a trailer

Ilustrato Pictures Limited ("Ilustrato"), has reached a breakthrough agreement with Wuxi Studios to co-develop a USD $15 million motion picture for both the domestic Chinese market, and the oversea international market. Wuxi Studios is a USD $1.4 billion development project that includes 11 sound stages, post-production facilities and animation studios in Wuxi, a city of 7.5 million people just outside Shanghai.

Cameron has received a lot of flack claiming his beautiful world of Pandora and the Na'vi was nothing more than the equivalent of two '90s animated pictures intertwined. 

Just in case anyone else wants to stake a claim in what Cameron has described as his "most personal film" to date, he wants everyone to know that he had the idea for his film long before both "FernGully" and Disney's "Pocahontas". In a lengthy 45-page sworn declaration filed at the end of October, Cameron once and for all laid out the details of how he came up with the idea for Hollywood's blockbuster.

Louisiana Launches Film Festival on Heels of 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Success

Louisiana has emerged as a major center of movie and TV production in recent years creating a need for trained crews. In response to the need to train more people, local officials and private industry have joined together to create the Louisiana International Film Festival and Mentorship Program, which will hold its inaugural event April 18-21 in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

A Georgia Main Street Paved in Red Carpet

No city took advantage of the Georgia filmmaking bonanza as much as Senoia. The first movie made here was “Driving Miss Daisy,” which was released in 1989, and a movie or television show has been filmed nearly each year since, including “Sweet Home Alabama” in 2002, “Meet the Browns” in 2008 and “Footloose” in 2011. By far the biggest project has been “The Walking Dead,” the hit zombie show on AMC that is the highest-rated drama of all time on basic cable channels.
